About the Role:
The Cultural Connections Lead plays an important role in fostering meaningful relationships with the diverse communities that make up Prince George and the surrounding region.
This volunteer works to ensure Relay For Life is an inclusive, welcoming, and culturally respectful event by building connections with community organizations, cultural groups, and local leaders. Through collaboration and engagement, the Cultural Connections Lead helps create opportunities for all community members to feel represented and involved in Relay For Life.
Profile Required
We’re looking for someone who has:

Responsibilities
As the Cultural Connections Lead, you will:
- Build and maintain relationships with local cultural organizations, Indigenous communities, and community groups.
- Encourage participation from diverse communities by sharing information about Relay For Life and its impact.
- Work with committee members to ensure the event is inclusive, welcoming, and culturally respectful.
- Identify opportunities to incorporate cultural traditions, performances, ceremonies, or educational elements into the event where appropriate and in collaboration with community partners.
- Support outreach initiatives that engage underrepresented communities.
- Collaborate with the Communications Coordinator to ensure outreach materials are inclusive and accessible.
- Provide guidance to the organizing committee on culturally respectful engagement and community partnerships.
- Attend committee meetings and contribute to the overall planning and success of Relay For Life.
- Support event activities throughout the event weekend.
Commitment
This is a 10-month volunteer commitment (September to June) that includes:
- Attending approximately 20 local committee meetings.
- Completing independent role responsibilities (approximately 8+ hours per month).
- Being available throughout the event weekend (Friday evening through Sunday) to support event operations.
Eligibility
Applicants must:
- Be 18 years of age or older.
- Complete and adhere to the Canadian Cancer Society Code of Conduct.
- Be committed to creating an inclusive, respectful, and welcoming environment for all participants, volunteers, and community members.
