About the Role

The Fitness & Wellness Coordinator is responsible for creating engaging health and wellness experiences that keep participants active, energized, and connected throughout Relay For Life. This volunteer recruits local fitness instructors, recreation groups, and wellness professionals to deliver inclusive activities that promote movement, self-care, and community while supporting the mission of the Canadian Cancer Society.

 

Profile Required

  • A passion for event planning and creating engaging experiences.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Creativity and enthusiasm for promoting health and wellness.
  • The ability to work collaboratively as part of a volunteer team.

 

Responsibilities

As the Fitness & Wellness Coordinator, you will:

  • Develop and coordinate the event’s fitness and wellness programming.
  • Recruit and liaise with local fitness instructors, recreation organizations, wellness practitioners, and health-focused community groups.
  • Coordinate a schedule of wellness activities such as yoga, stretching, dance fitness, meditation, walking challenges, and other participant engagement opportunities.
  • Ensure activities are inclusive, accessible, and suitable for participants of all ages and abilities.
  • Collaborate with the Performing Arts & Entertainment Coordinator to create a balanced event schedule with no programming conflicts.
  • Work with the Logistics Coordinator to coordinate activity spaces, equipment, and any technical requirements.
  • Collaborate with the Communications Coordinator to promote wellness programming leading up to the event.
  • Attend committee meetings and contribute to the overall planning and success of Relay For Life.
  • Support programming and participant engagement throughout the event weekend.

 

Commitment

This is a 10-month volunteer commitment (September to June) that includes:

  • Attending approximately 20 local committee meetings.
  • Completing independent role responsibilities (approximately 8+ hours per month).
  • Being available throughout the event weekend (Friday evening through Sunday) to support event operations.

 

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be 18 years of age or older.
  • Complete and adhere to the Canadian Cancer Society Code of Conduct.
  • Be committed to creating an inclusive, respectful, and welcoming environment for all participants, volunteers, and community members.
