Seeking Tech Mate Volunteers in Prince George!

Description

CNIB is seeking volunteers to provide one-to-one technology training for individuals who are blind or partially sighted, to increase their confidence and assist them to live the life they choose. This one-to-one training is provided by volunteers over a series of maximum five sessions per participant. Orientation and Technology training (including Voiceover or Zoom and accessibility apps) will be provided by CNIB.

Qualities and skills we are looking for in volunteers include the following:

  • Willingness to learn and work with people with sight loss
  • Knowledge and experience using accessibility features on iPhones OR willingness to be trained on above features combined with an interest in technology
  • Trustworthy, patient, and friendly, empathetic manner
  • Reliable, organized and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Strong English language skills and ability to communicate effectively; ability to speak a second language may be an asset
  • Willingness to attend ongoing training regarding new advances in technology or new teaching techniques

We ask that volunteers meet the following requirements:

  • Must be 18 or older
  • We ask for a minimum six-month commitment to the program
  • A thorough background check including a Clear Police Record Check and a Vulnerable Sector Check are required
